Samsung's Galaxy S23 series launched earlier this year and received generally favorable reviews across the board. Instead of sticking to its in-house chips, Samsung decided to exclusively power the new phones with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 around the globe. However, with the Galaxy S23 FE, we might not see that happening.
According to the information acquired by folks over at SamMobile, the Galaxy S23 FE is indeed released in the fourth quarter of this year but will come with a significant downgrade in one major area where Samsung seems to struggle a lot.
The Galaxy S23 FE is said to pack Samsung's old Exynos 2200 instead of a newer chipset but will offer a better camera
The source claims that the entirety of the Galaxy S23 FE production will be done using Samsung's Exynos 2200 - the same chipset that is found in some Galaxy S22 variants that were released last year. And yes, the same chipset that felt like a mid-range CPU powering a flagship phone. Sadly, this will be the case for all the phones sold around the globe, so you are not going to get access to any Qualcomm chipset this time around.
Now, as to why Samsung has decided to go with a significantly older chipset, and that too the Exynos 2200, still makes no sense. The company could have chosen the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and it would have made the Galaxy S23 FE a massive success, but clearly the company had other things in mind.
However, not everything is bleak. The source claims that the Galaxy S23 FE is going to get a 50-megapixel main rear camera instead of the 12-megapixel sensor that Samsung has been using for its Fan Edition phones. In addition, the phone will be available in 6/128 or 8/256GB configurations, with a 4,500 mAh battery and 25W fast charging. The phone's model number is going to be SM-S-711x.
This is all there is to know about the Galaxy S23 FE. Still, considering how there have been multiple rumors about the phone in the past, we are just hoping that it does not suffer the same fate as the Galaxy S21 FE, which was rumored to be canceled several times only to be officially launched at a point when the public had lost interest in the device.
